Celebrating the Miles Davis Centennial
Montreux Jazz Festival Miami Celebrates the Miles Davis Centennial is a landmark tribute honoring one of the most transformative figures in music history. Presented in collaboration with the Miles Davis Estate, this special Miles Davis Night is a centerpiece of the global Centennial celebrations and a defining moment for the festival. Miles Davis’s relationship with the Montreux Jazz Festival is legendary. Between 1973 and 1991, he performed there ten times, continually reinventing his sound and pushing the boundaries of jazz and modern music. His final appearance was immortalized in the iconic recording Miles & Quincy: Live at Montreux. That legacy now extends to Miami through an exceptional tribute conceived with those closest to his music. The evening brings together two essential chapters of Miles Davis’s artistic universe. The Miles Electric Band (M.E.B.), led by his nephew and longtime collaborator Vince Wilburn Jr., channels the energy and experimentation of Miles’s electric era. Alongside them, the Kind of Blue Acoustic Band, featuring musicians closely connected to his legacy, revisits the music of Kind of Blue, widely regarded as one of the most influential and best-selling jazz albums of all time. Together, these performances offer a rare journey through the acoustic and electric worlds that defined Miles Davis’s career. More than a concert, this is an opportunity to experience the full arc of Miles Davis’s music, performed by those who carry his legacy forward.
