"Considering the state of global politics, there's never been a better time to get reacquainted with the righteousness of Black Uhuru. The iconic reggae band, whose name means "Black Freedom" in Swahili, is still going strong after more than 50 years" - NPR Since their formation in Jamaica in 1972, Black Uhuru has been one of the most popular roots reggae groups worldwide. The band was awarded the first ever Grammy for Best Reggae Album in 1985, among countless accolades and awards, global tours, and major hit songs from their extensive catalogue. While most-known for their late-'70s and '80s classics — years defined by a game of musical chairs within the group with some of reggae music's all time greats — 2025 finds the group still in top form, led by founding member Duckie Simpson and co-lead Andrew Bees, the configuration in place since 1997.

Where do we park?
The municipal parking lot at 73rd Street and Collins Avenue is across the street from the Bandshell. Please note it is no longer free - it is $2/hour! When it is full, look for street parking.
What if it rains?
The venue is an open air facility, covered by our new canopy. Shows are scheduled rain or shine.
Can we bring a picnic?
No outside food or drink inside the Bandshell, please. We have a fully-stocked bar, and we usually feature wonderful food vendors inside the venue. We also have a water refill station.
