Tribeca Festival: Makaya McCraven
MAKAYA MCCRAVEN: Makaya McCraven is a prolific drummer, composer and producer. His newest album, In These Times, is a preeminent addition to his already-acclaimed and extensive discography, and is the triumphant finale of a project 7+ years in the making. McCraven believes that the word “jazz” is “insufficient, at best, to describe the phenomenon we’re dealing with.” The artist, who has been aptly called a “cultural synthesizer”, has a unique gift for collapsing space, destroying borders and blending past, present, and future into poly-textural arrangements of post-genre, jazz-rooted 21st century folk music. BRAINVILLE: Welcome to Brainville!!! DJ Kumi and Carter Jackson-Brown will be your guides. Modern Music reigns supreme in this Utopic City...where Sun Ra is the Mayor and Charles Mingus is the Chief of Police!!! The residents of WDNA community jazz radio, will be spinning vinyl featuring a blend of jazz and beats. The Tribeca Festival returns to Art Basel Miami Beach at the Miami Beach Bandshell for four nights of music-forward programming, including live performances, special screenings, our signature talks, and more. This marks the third year of the Tribeca Festival partnering with Art Basel Miami Beach to bring live music to the annual art fair.
